Netscape is an all-in-one program for browsing web pages, reading email and news. To start a new setup (or add to an existing one) you must first locate the User Profile Manager in your Netscape Communicator folder and double-click to open the file.
Step 1) To This action will open the Netscape Communicator Profiles window. If you have never started a new account (called Profile), you will see the word Guest in the left hand window. If you have previous accounts you will see them listed in the window. These accounts will hold various settings (bookmarks, address book, etc.) and will not interfere with or distroy the other accounts that are listed. To start a new account click on the New... button.
Step 2) This window will supply you with some information about the account you are creating. Click the Next button to continue.
Step 3) Type your name in the top field and you email address in the bottom field. Click the Next button when finished.
Step 4) This screen will verify your profile name. Click the Next button to continue.
Step 5) Click the Next button on the Your Profile Folder screen to continue.
Step 6) Type smtp.michusa.com in the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server: field then click the Next button to continue.
Step 7) Type your user name in the Mail server user name: field. Type mail.michusa.com in the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server: field. Make sure the Mail server type: is set to POP (the default setting) then click the Next button to continue.
Step 8) Type news.123.net in the News (NNTP) server field and leave the Port: setting at the default (119). Click the Next button to continue.
Step 9) These shortcuts (or aliases) are optional and you may leave them checked or not. Click the Next button to continue.
Step 10) If you have other email from various programs on you computer that you would like to merge into Netscape leave the box check entitled Import information from other programs. If you do not, uncheck the box. Click the Next button to continue.
Step 11) Your setup is complete and you can start using the program.
To change the home page location, open Netscape and choose the Preferences...option from the Edit menu. Click on the Navigator selection in the Category listing on the left-hand side of the window. Type your new location (or use the one below) in the Home page location: field. Click the OK button to return to the program.
If you want the Netscape email program (called messenger) to remember your password, choose the Preferences...option from the Edit menu. Click on the Mail Servers selection in the Category listing on the left-hand side of the window. Double-click on pop.michusa.com appearing in the Incoming Mail Servers window.
In the Mail Server Info window you can check the box next to Remember password. You can also set the program to check mail in regular intervals (this option is great for dedicated connections but I don't recommend it for dial-up accounts). Click the OK button to exit this window, then click the OK button again to return to the Netscape program.
